Title ~ Physical Properties of Gases, Liquids and Solids
Author ~ R. P. W. Scott

Matter
Matter – Matter is a term that is supposed to embrace all ‘material’ things and so its meaning is, to say the least, somewhat ambiguous and although some of its properties are known its exact definition remains obscure. Matter cannot be created or destroyed although it can be transformed into energy. All particles of matter attract one another and, although the process is ultimately limited, matter can be split into portions so small as to be invisible. Matter in motion has energy and matter is, in fact, a vehicle for energy. Matter can exist in a variety of forms, solids, liquids gasses and some other types that appear to be hybrids of these. It is easier to define the different types of matter (e.g. solids, liquids, gases etc.) than to give a clear definition of the general form of matter.
