Acceleration - Acceleration (a) is defined as the rate of change of velocity (v) with time (t), ( i.e. ).  The units of acceleration in the CGS system are centimeters per second squared and have been given name gals (derived from Galileo).  In the British system the units of acceleration are feet per second squared. Acceleration has the dimensions +1 in length and –2 in time.
