Cyclic Voltammetry
Cyclic Voltammetry. In cyclic voltammetry the normal three electrode arrangement used in voltammetry is employed but the voltage applied to the
working electrode is programmed linearly over a given voltage range and then
reverse programmed back to it’s original potential. A
curve is constructed relating the current passing between the counter electrode
and the working electrode to the potential between the reference electrode and
the working electrode. This technique is often used in the initial development
of an electrochemical analysis and for studying the mechanism involved in
electrode reactions. By varying the program rate the technique can also be used
to study reactions that have widely different reaction rates and to examine
reaction kinetics.
